What's best for me?

A friend and I are going to begin working out together this next week. Unfortunately, I've never been a gym-goer and have no idea what sort of equipment I need to use to meet my concerns. Also, I've no idea how to use the equipment although I'm sure I can catch on with observation.

So here's what I'm hoping to accomplish:
I'm 5'7" 150 lbs. I want to lose 25-30 lbs (preferably not from my breasts although I get the feeling that may be unavoidable! lol!) , tone my tummy, thighs, butt and arms, and generally build up my endurance and strength.

So what sort of workout and equipment would be best for me?
I understand the dietary changes just fine, I just need more info on the workout part.

The gym should walk you around and answer all that. At least the ones I have been to.
I like the weight machines best.
