Doing sit-ups will tighten and firm up your abdomen. It won't likely add any more actual mass to your abdominal region. If losing weight, especially fat weight, is your goal then you'll want to include some form of cardiovascular exercise like running or walking in your regimen.

It because possible to gain weight when you first start exercising because you are building muscle, you can gain as much as 2-3 lbs. Your gaining muscle and there is an increase in blood volume, your new muscles need a bigger supply of oxygen in order to maintain the work. Our bodies will increase blood volume so more oxygenated blood can be supplied to the new muscles mass. For losing abdominal fat, resistance is the key I believe. but you will need to train the whole body working one area and not the others causes muscle imbalance, So along with your situps, add aerobics, weight taining or some form or resistance training, How about walking or jogging for 1 mile or 1 hour you'll be amazed how fast you'll feel a difference. Working out with weights will increase your lean body mass which raises your resting metabolism rate, when you speed up your metabolism you burn more body fat! Try and work out 30-60 minutes for the best results. If your eating healthy and exercising the whole body your see results, it just takes a little time and patience.
