the only thing id mention is a combination of simple diet changes (like simple portion control or even changes in cooking methods) and also other methods of exercise can be powerful.
athletes cross train because hitting the body from different angles keeps it off balance, "confused", and gives better results.
bike riding is great. if the issue with exercise is that you have the little ones around and need to have them present when you workout there is another option i really, really believe in.
my wife and i both love exercise dvds. yes, we go to the gym and hit the trail... but a good way to change up your routine easily is to use DVD's.
we both use billy blanks tae bo amped dvd's... and they can really get into muscles you dont use much... and the stronger you make your body, the better it will feel overall, the less chance you will hurt yourself, and muscle burns more calories than fat... so strength training is, in my opinion, something that all people trying to cut weight should do. it isnt just about cardio... its overall fitness.
also, pilates is another good workout. id suggest Stott Pilates, link below... we have the four part series thats a third down the page, starting with The Secret to Flat Abs... anyone who thinks you cannot get a fantastic workout with pilates is clueless. its powerful stuff.

if you dont want to buy, and you usually can find cheaper, used dvds online easily, you can also get dvds from your local public library, often free rentals for a week or two. actually, i dont use the pilates dvd much of the time, as its slower paced and im too impatient, so ive taken several great moves from the training video and incorporated them into my workout...
the thing i like about this is you can do a 35-55 min workout early in the morning before the kids are up... yes, might mean you get up early, but ok...
if you work out in the morning like this (no matter what your workout is) it does several things... it gets the workout checked off the list. no putting it off and putting it off until its too late.
also, working out early on increases your metabolism during a part of the day when you are more likely to be eating. that early workout cranks up your metabolism so you burn more calories later.
and often if you do a workout like pilates or tae bo early on, you might find later in the day you are feeling good enough to take that bike ride.
