We had one that lasted for 2 years. We changed the water about every 3 months and used water conditioner drops that neutralizes the chlorine.

My beta has been doing well in plain old tap water with a drop or two of water conditioner for the past year and a half.

I used to have 4 betas.. I love them! But yeah Bottled water is fine... I was only using that for a while, but it finally became too much trouble so I started using straight tap water at room temperature and they were all fine... I didn't add any chemicals... but I am sure water from different areas may be more toxic than others, so you can get water drops at the pet store to add to your tap water... otherwise just make sure the water you change them into is the same as the water you are taking them out of.

Also, letting your tap water sit out over night will allow for the chlorine to evaporate. It's also like s2tp mentioned, different areas have different water.
Your doing just fine with buying bottled water; however, you will find it cheaper to buy the drops.
Good luck with your fish... He's pretty!!

    Mary andujar,
Welcome to the group. Your questions are more likely to receive answers if you make separate posts for them.
You can put tap water with an added water conditioner specifically made for aquariums to remove chlorine and/or chloramine in your tank. The conditioner will make the water safe for fish.
