    Firefox not recognizing Download Action
I've got .wav files to open with windows media player, but I keep getting the prompt - even though I have the "always use" box checked too.

I'm using FF 2.0 with no add-ons installed.

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

Check out Tools > Options, Content tab at top, File Types > Manage. I don't believe all extensions show in that window so try the search box for "wav". Once you find it edit the entry for the app you want to use. And before you ask, I don't know how you add an entry for an extension that isn't there. :)

    I did check that.

The wav extension is there twice... with both set to Open With Windows Media Player (see the image to the left, above).

You need to use the media player plug in for FF, available HERE

    I'm cornfuzed
The download link goes to Microsoft where I'm offered the download of Win Media Player 10, not a FF plug-in. I searched FF's plugins & extensions and don't find any for Win Media Player.

    Am I missing something simple?

PS. I'm no lover of Win Media Player, I just hate it less than Real or Quicktime... so if there's another media player that works better with FF, I'm all for trying it.

    DOG GONE Microsoft!

Yes, I DID have version 10. I used the Update link and it gave me the half hour update... to version 11.

... so now back in the same boat as my original post.
And again, my confusion is that on the link you showed for FF plugins, the link for the WMP plugin is not a link to a plugin, but a link to download WMP 10.

Is this MS way of making things difficult for FF users?

Should I scrap WMP? If so, do you have a recommendation for a simple player that's FF friendly?

Well for playing wav files I use WinAmp. You could always use VLC player for your video files, bloody thing plays everything.

Both work well for you in FF?

Yep. And I actually download a very 'naked' Lite version of WinAmp so that it loads quickly. I don't need all the winamp doodads, I just want it to play wav and mp3 files.

Hey, what if you deleted all your WMP entries in FF Options and see if they get recreated whe you check off "Do this automatically..."?

I actually like your idea better. WMP is so huge and resource intensive... and of course it wants to phone home every time you open the stinking thing.

    I'll try the WinAmp Lite.
