Suppose a stock had an initial price of $111 per share, paid a dividend of $2.80 per share during the year and an ending share price of 138? Compute the percentage total return.

The total return equals the gain in the value of the stock plus the dividends received. The percentage total return is the total return divided by the original price, expressed as a percentage.
