Points are "awarded" for the good answers you give. When you look at your profile see the little green dots? That means that these people liked your advice. A red dot, or reddie, is not good, that means they disagree with you and points are deducted.

The point system is essentially meaningless since people can give you greenies because they like you or reds because they don't. The comments that accompany the points do have some value because they explain why the comments were made.

The support this member feature is for people who feel they were helped so greatly by the advice, they would like to give a tangible expression of their appreciation by sending money. Its basically like a tip you would give for good service. Its totally up to you, there is no requirement to do so.

Let me add that very few of us do this for points, tips or anything other than the satisfaction of helping.

I don't do it for the points, heck I could care less.

As for the Support This Member, don't really care about that either. It is like giving a "tip" if you will, for advice that goes over and above your expectations.

I, as well as many other members, do this for free in my spare time.

Okay, the "points".....for giving a good answer someone agrees with you and you get a little green box on your profile....these boxes are like "points" and they add up. See all the green boxes under my name? Look at my profile, just left click on my name and go to my user profile, you will see all the agrees and disagrees for me there.

For every bad answer your give, or someone just disagrees with you, you get a red box, and this deducts from your "points."

These "points" really do not matter to us who have been here for a while, but you will see that new users really like to get them.

The better answers you give, the more "points" you will receive. Just be sure to give accurate advice. Like in medicine or law we are really picky about actual factual advice.

It is far more important to hear from someone you've helped than actually getting "points"
