| | | Site Changes Sorry if any of this is covered elsewhere but it's sometimes a little difficult to know where people are posting this kind of stuff, and some threads are a gazillion miles long....
Anyway, I know you're just messing with the site right now, but wanted to give some opinions before (hopefully) they go permanent.
Today I've noticed that the little hover pop-up box that shows the beginning of what a thread says has changed. And it's really annoying. I'm trying to read titles of threads and such, and that thing is popping up in my face, it seems regardless of where I plant the mouse. I don't recall exactly how it was before, but it seems it used to only do the popup if I hovered over the title of a thread. And it was a smaller box. And now it's popping up almost anywhere my mouse goes, meaning I can't avoid it at all. And now it's all the way across the screen.
It just about drove me bonkers when I was trying to read the subject titles on the threads.
Also... been meaning to comment for a while on what is now like a side-bar to the right when you're in a thread. Don't recall what all is there but I know the "threads similar to this one" is over there. I've never liked that stuff taking up part of the screen. But I also think since the "similar threads" thing is right there easy to see, it's causing people to pull up old threads a lot more often. I've definitely noticed an increase in old threads showing up again, and people tagging onto the end of other threads. That happens anyway but it's been happening more. (At least in the places where I hang out the most. Maybe that's cause I hang around so much homework.)
I think some of the other stuff I've already seen addressed elsewhere, both good and bad, so I'll leave those be. | | | | | | |

| Thanks for the feedback. And we do apologize for not communicating - at least to our active members - upcoming changes being considered and done.
We will do better about giving "heads up" on the changes...and in some cases, yes, we'll encourage feedback prior. |

| Yep, well out of curiosity I clicked on the first "suggested thread" that was to the right of the screen...
It was from March this year and had already had 9 replies. |

| Now that I've been using the site for a few hours with that popup preview thing... it's driving me even more nuts. It's in the way of what I'm trying to read. I also realize it's doing it on the subscription page too.
I mean driving me nuts almost to the point that I just left. |

| Maybe it has something to do with your computer Morgaine?
I only get the pop-ups if I actually hold my mouse over the text for a few seconds. |

| Well... I had thought I hadn't changed anything over the last couple of days. I downloaded a newer Firefox but that was a couple of weeks ago. But it did make me stop and think when I last changed the "theme" for it. (I hate the look of the newer Firefox's -- trying too hard to look like IE -- so I've been trying out different themes.)
And sure enough, it's that theme I just changed to. Cause I changed it to another one and it's back to its old self. Bummer cause I liked that theme quite a bit!
I always thought how the popups worked was part of the way it was coded. I don't get how that's related to a browser theme.
So anyway... never mind on that one. :-) |

Pay to call Curlyben for advice ($1/min) | When you say a pop up preview, does this happen when you hover over a question ?
If so this is completely normal and has always happened.
Works in all browsers, but earlier FF (3.0) it is delayed. |

| Yes, that's the popup I was referring to. It's always been there, but it was acting differently... in a very annoying manner that was covering up trying to read things. But I discovered it was just the skin I was using. (Um, browser skin, not the one here.) I have no idea how that would happen.
And I prefer that it delay... that is, be my choice to hover over something rather than having them pop up as you move the mouse around. |

| At least you got it sorted
I have the old Firefox (I think) 3.0.14 or something. |
