Rude Responses. Please read. Especially newbies.

I would like everyone to keep in mind that we are doing this on our own free time. Contrary to some of your obvious beliefs we do not get paid to do this. Its something we do because we enjoy helping people. You can come in here and ask for help and put your 10 cents in which i think is very cool. Being rude to someone who answers your question is really not called for. We do the best we can and if someones answer is not enough for you its better just to ask if they have anyother information to add and not be rude about it or better yet try telling us the whole story from the beginning instead of leaving stuff out and then screaming at us about it. I wish you all good luck and hope your questions will be answered in considerate and kindly manner. Thankyou and have a nice day.

I seldom receive rude responses to my answers. This is true even in areas I answer for lack of somebody with a good background. I think many of the few rude responses I do get are where I don't tell people what they wanted to hear. Fortunately I have a thick skin and stick around to help those that appreciate me.

Crankie, I agree with you, I tried to rate you but it said to pass my reputation around. I haven't experienced any rudeness from anyone on the board, however, I've witnessed people being rude and disrespectful to some of the other experts. Most of us have jobs but we still come here on our free time to help those in need of advice. I'm working several jobs right now, I'm a Cosmetologist, Administrative Assistant and I model part time in fashion shows. And sometimes I come home at night feeling exhausted, but I fix myself something to drink then return my boyfriend's and friends calls, and I sign in to HelpMeHelpDesk to give some advice. I hope my advice has been beneficial to people because most of the people who ask for advice don't even say thank you to us. I find that the experts on this board are the most supportive and appreciative of my answers. I'm glad you guys also like my sex advice, I try to make sure that my sexuality posts are appropriate. I think everyone has done an amazing job, this board wouldn't be active without any of you. I truly appreciate all you for taking your time to give free advice to people. Keep up the good work. I would also like to thank admin for putting up with me and my edgy ways, your okay, dude, and Rick and Psi42 for being such cool moderators.

Good points, Pretty! I agree that there are too many people who ask questions never bother to say thanks or report back to say whether or not the advice helped. This in spite of many experts answering them with great suggestions, and obvious thought. That's why I always try to come back and thank everyone every time I get answers to my questions. I too really appreciate everyone here, and why anyone would be rude is beyond me... except maybe because they aren't hearing what they want to hear, as labman suggests.

Let me also add that ridiculing/downplaying another person's answer is rude and uncalled for. One person's advice may not be the only one that is right. It is up to the "asker" to digest the answers and use them (or not) as appropriate. Some of our answers are subjective. As such, don't assume yours is the only right one. If you must question another person's answer, do it with respect to that person.

RickJ : Exactly.
Chery : Amen to that one. It takes less energy to be kind than to be rude.

I have to comment on part of this. While what you say is true in many areas, its not universally true. There are situations when an answer can be wrong, maybe even dangerous. Sometimes an answer can be hurtful or hateful (I recall an answer that said if you weren't Christian, you could not know God and God only answers Chrtistian's prayers). I've also seen answers that would result in a user losing all their data or damaging their PCs.

I'm not saying such answers justify ridicule, but I believe its hard to comment on such answers without being critical of the answer.

RickJ : Yes, it IS difficult sometimes...but not impossible.
labman : Right Scott. I think it is rude to post questionable answers in forums you know much less than others. I seldom post in computers.

No doubt. I find myself biting my tongue sometimes...but that's really what it all comes down to. We bite our tongues to avoid criticizing an answer or a member - and just post what we believe is a better or more accurate answer, like described here.

I like hanging out here because admin prohibits much of what I find annoying at the other "expert sites".

Also: If anyone gets a jab taken at them, please do not "jab back", but instead use the Report This Post link...and we'll edit or delete the post and/or ban or suspend the user.

Chery : How right - no matter how old we are we can still learn - and it's NOT WHAT YOU SAY, BUT HOW YOU SAY IT!
