Old threads not locked anymore?

Hello all,

I thought I remembered threads over six months (or a year, or some time-frame) being locked from getting responses a little while ago.

Is this not in practice anymore? See, I keep getting "response e-mails" (you know the email you get when someone responds to your post) from articles that are OVER TWO YEARS OLD. This is because the poster doesn't think enough to look at the date of the original post.

It just gets annoying after a while, but I don't want to turn the email feature off because I enjoy getting updates about other articles that are fairly recent. I just wish these new people would look at the date before posting.

Is there any way to prevent this, and am I just imagining the locked threads that I thought used to exist?

We've been seeing if having the old threads unlocked makes any difference.

I have notice that some very old threads are being answered again.
Roughly how many old responses are you receiving ?

I would say on average, two or three a week. Not too bad, but frustrating when it's obvious that the original question no longer needs answering, let alone it being two years old.

In my opinion, the majority of those questions that are THAT old, no longer need response and should just be left for archival purposes. If someone really wishes to bring up the question again (which doesn't happen very often considering how specific many of them are), they'll ask it again. Or if they really want to respond, they can PM the user.

Just my opinion, but thanks for listening!

I am so glad someone brought this topic into attention.

I think I am one of those who picked up old threads (not that old) and answered them.I even answered a locked one( I dont know how that is possible).

I also would like to suggest if the person questioning has recieved an answer they needed (like facts or one correct answere required threads),maybe they could be locked too if the questioner has responded with a thank you note etc.

Thanks all admin, you are doing a great job as it is...

I guess if a question never got a good answer and somebody new came and had an answer, it would be good if they could let people know there is an answer. I have yet to see that happen. Mostly it is like about a week ago when somebody new dug up 3 old questions on teaching a puppy to walk on lead, and posted the same dangerous, abusive answer to them. It was so bad that I felt justified deleting it.

Also, I recently locked a 6 week old question on naming a puppy. I really hoped the puppy had a name by then and the OP didn't need more ideas.

As much work as it is to retrieve old questions, I suspect people know what they are doing. When you see an answer, there is no way of knowing it is a geriatric question until you open it. I have a life outside AMHD, and resent people wasting my time with their responses to old questions.

I "used to" pick up old threads, now I know better, I try to look for only a month old topics.
I made mistakes when I was very new....now I am all grown up and aware of (most)AMHD rules

Hey Labman,
Hopefully the puppy has a name
