Homework Questions

Hi all. I'm new. I've been most working over in the accounting area under business because that's my area. There's some business or tax stuff in there, but the vast majority of it seems to be homework problems.

There's a sticky in the homework help forum under Education. I would like to know if we can have something similar in some of the business areas that tend to include a lot of homework questions. (Finance has a lot of homework also, but not as high a percentage.) People are just posting questions and unfortunately some people just posting outright answers for them. Most people not including any work they've tried to do themselves. And some are very long and too complicated for this type of situation. (Not sure of a solution to that.)

I've been tutoring college level accounting and math for years, so I know what I'm doing, but I can't just go around deciding to make rules for a forum where I'm new. :-) So that's why I'm asking if we could do something like this. I could make some suggestions of what I think would be good.

Gotta run right now, but I'll be checking back later this evening. Thanks.

Um... well, I've been floating different places. Under Business, the Accounting and the Finance have lots of homework problems, and under Science so does the Mathematics. (I'm sure the other science stuff does too but I just don't go there.)

Can we please, please, please include a statement to the people answering to stop just answering problems for people? I don't think they realize that they're not necessarily helping someone learn by doing that. Bad enough schools teach plug-and-chug, and now you can just get your homework done by someone on the internet!

Sorry... frustrated.

I do understand your frustration and also wish that we had some sort of statement concerning help with people's homework, that it's not really helping them with their education if they are just provided the answers.

There is already a warning about Homework questions on the Accounting board and on all the Science boards.

I'll embolden it to make it stand out better - and add it to the Finance board.

I know what you mean, sometimes I work really hard to gently tease an answer out of someone and then someone just posts up the answer underneath my post!

Sorry felt like venting too

Although I have to say Scottgem does a great job of informing people about the homework site rules.

EDIT wow those new warnings are good!
