Homework Questions

Hi all. I'm new. I've been most working over in the accounting area under business because that's my area. There's some business or tax stuff in there, but the vast majority of it seems to be homework problems.

There's a sticky in the homework help forum under Education. I would like to know if we can have something similar in some of the business areas that tend to include a lot of homework questions. (Finance has a lot of homework also, but not as high a percentage.) People are just posting questions and unfortunately some people just posting outright answers for them. Most people not including any work they've tried to do themselves. And some are very long and too complicated for this type of situation. (Not sure of a solution to that.)

I've been tutoring college level accounting and math for years, so I know what I'm doing, but I can't just go around deciding to make rules for a forum where I'm new. :-) So that's why I'm asking if we could do something like this. I could make some suggestions of what I think would be good.

Gotta run right now, but I'll be checking back later this evening. Thanks.

Thanks much, Rick!!

And Curlyben, might have to go visit that wine forum. Wonderful topic. While sitting at the 'puter tinkering with something. (Gotta love a geek.)

hehe I've been repeatedly chastised for popping Curlyben's Homework sticky on some who seem to not want to do any of their own stuff. I like to see it more prominent. Cheers!

**edit**: See! We are being commanded to answer this! http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/math-sc...in-185185.html

Burns me that they won't show how they've tried.

Sometimes, getting the answer to one problem allows the asker to solve the rest of her problems without help. Sometimes people are just being lazy. Is it our job to differentiate?

I think it is, to a certain extent. We aren't supposed to hand them the answers, are we?
My goal is to make certain that they are learning about the given subject. Help them help themselves....
Do you not agree?

I really like what was brought up. I found a few as well and mentioned it to them. What gets me is why do they have the right to add negative feedback on our reputation when they get caught. Sorry I needed to vent as well. Anyways great point.

OK, I agree with you CaptainRich. Answering a question is always a shot in the dark because we can not read their body language. Yeah, it's safer to just point in the direction of the correct answer.
