At my other forum home there is a feature like this:

If someone else responds to a post before I do...that is, while I'm typing my own response, there is a message that pops up when I hit Submit that says something along the lines of

"Warning, someone else has posted a response while you were typing. You may want to review the most recent post before submitting yours".
