Cant rate answer

I was trying to rate an answer and when i clickd on rate this answer it said i had to spread some rep before giving it any one know what this means?? Ive rated answers before why cant I do it now (I only tried this one it was on the being called ma'am question) ANY ONE????

If it said you have to spread the reputation it means that you have given that person reputation recently and you have to give it to others before you can give it to that person again.

Correct. You cannot give person1 another rating until you have given a rating on 4 others. We call it "the spread". It's designed to 1. encourage use of the feature all around and 2. avoid "piling on" of good or bad rep on one person.

Yeah, You can have somebody post a whole string of answers, but only rate one until you rate some other people whether they deserve it or not. I hope nobody takes the rep system seriously. I see many bad answers posted by people with a large string of green boxes, and then somebody else gives it an approval.
