I was looking through your science section in the forum and i noticed something.. you have Agriculture, Archaeology, Astronomy, Aviation, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Ecology & Environment, Energy, Engineering, Entomology, Forensic Science, Geography, Geology, Inventors & Inventions, Mathematics, Meteorology, Natural History & Anthropology, Oceanography, Other Science, Paleontology, Paranormal Phenomena, Physics, Science for Children, Social Science, Zoology.

So that got me to thinking.. if you have Agriculture, Aviation, Biology, Botany, geology, oceanography and zoology why could you not have an aquaculture section... I think it would help out people who had fish questions or questions about the way things are done in aquaculture and new methods coming available etc... If its possible i think you guys should add it


*i am currently getting a diploma in Wildlife and forestry conservation that includes an in depth aquaculture section and currently i am running a 100% average in that section*

The reason i believe aquaculture should be included under the sciences part of the forum is because. As the years go by more and more people are realizing the impact of over fishing our worlds population of aquatic mammals and plants. In response to the realization that we are depleting our natural resources People around the world have responded by creating more and more aquaculture practices and companies... Though the people starting out in aquaculture do not have a forum or internet community to discuss, advise and ask for help in. Starting off in aquaculture can be quite complicating to the new aquaculturist. Being able to ask about cures for sicknesses or lack of much needed nutrients, zoning, space needed, questions about fish, aquatic plants, crustations and other shelled marine organisms i think would help this section of our worlds economy would benefit mankind in general.
Aquaculture has been used in china since around 2500 BC, when river flood waters lowered and fish were trapped in artifical lakes... these fish provided them with food, and without the domestication of carp back then we would not have the goldfish we have today.
In central Europe, early Christian monasteries adopted some aquacultural practices used by the Roman Empire in the Mediterranean.[2] The practice of aquaculture gained prevalence in Europe during the Middle Ages, since away from the seacoasts and the big rivers, fish were scarce and thus expensive. However, improvements in transportation during the 19th century made fish easily available and inexpensive, even in inland areas, causing a decline in the practice. When the first North American fish hatchery was constructed on Dildo Island, Newfoundland Canada in 1889, it was the largest and most advanced in the world.
In contrast to agriculture, the rise of aquaculture is a contemporary phenomenon. According to professor Carlos M. Duarte about 430 (97%) of the aquatic species presently in culture have been domesticated since the start of the 20th century, and an estimated 106 aquatic species have been domesticated over the past decade
In 2004, the total world production of fisheries was 140.5 million tonnes of which aquaculture contributed 45.5 million tonnes or about 32% of the total world production.[6] The growth rate of worldwide aquaculture has been sustained and rapid, averaging about 8 percent per annum for over thirty years, while the contribution to the total from wild fisheries has been essentially flat for the last decade.

With the increase of production from these fisheries also comes an increased need or want to know what is behind it all.. With a section for Aquaculture people would be able to ask questions or post advice about anything pertaining to the subject. I feel (though some others may or may not) that the reason we dont hear about it often on askmehelpdesk is because people dont really know if they can put questions about aquaculture in other subject areas... Like for example.. I posted a question in zoology about Broken Back Syndrom because there was no other place to put it because it didnt really fall under pets.. If there had been a aquaculture section it could of been posted in there and possibly assist with the expansion of knowledge for mankind. Now i do understand that it may or may not be feasable or even logical to place a aquaculture section in askmehelpdesk but i do think it would assist in educating the population immensly (i dont know if i spelt that right :O ) I understand if you decide it does not fit in askmehelpdesk i only ask that you all consider it as an opinon
