My sister in law is having a baby and wants to just sign the baby over to me

What do I need to do? What papers do I need to get? And how much is it going to cost? I live in arizona and I do not know what to do I don't want the child to go to cps and don't want the child to have to go through the system

She cannot simply just sign the baby over to you. The baby will have to go through the typical adoption process. Get an adoption attorney to help guide you through this.

Before you do this, think long and hard about this. It's never easy to adopt a family member's baby. What if she decides she wants it back? What if she decides she doesn't want to give it to you?

Will this baby ever know that your sister is actually its biological mother?

You really need to consider the negative impacts of such an adoption and how you and/or her will handle this.

What you need to decide is whether you want to take care of the child un until the mother feels she is ready to do so or whether you want the child to be your own. If you just want to care for the child temporarily, then talk to CPS and and tell them you want to foster the child. This shouldn't be a problem and they will help you become the legal guardian.

But if you want to adopt, then hire a Family Law attorney to make sure all the paperwork is ironclad. Because the odds are the mother will change her mond as she sees the child grow.

And please remember that the FATHER of the child has some say in all of this as well.

You cannot legally adopt without his permission--and an honest attempt has to be made to find him.

Ok she is an in law and she never planned to get pregnet and the father of this child wants nothing to do with her now. So from the day she found out she was pregnet she wanted to get rid of the baby. She asked my husban if he thought that we would be willing to take it and give it a good life. We said of course cause we don't have any children. But I need to know where to get started with the paper work and I did find out that she can not sign the paper work till 72 hours after the baby is born. I am not sure about the baby knowing her later on in its life. She just does not want to rise another child. She has already has 8 children and they are grown up. So please if you have any advise for me let me know thank you

We gave you the advice. Hire a Family Law Attorney to prepare the paperwork. As noted, you will need to get the father to agree, but since he wants nothing to do with the child, that shouldn't be a problem.
