Signing over parental rights, child support still needed?
I am going through a tough situation with the mother of my child. I was wondering, if I sign over my rights as a father can she terminate child support? This is in the state of Maine. I want to know so I can protect myself. Please help me.

I've moved this to Family Law where it belongs. If you read some of the hundreds of threads on this question in this forum you will have your answer.

The bottomline is a court is not going to allow a termination of Parental rights.

The issue here is that unless there is a new husband to adopt, almost no court is going to let you give up your rights. And if you do, you will still have to pay child support.

Even if the mother does not ask for it, or try to collect, she can come back in some years. After that of course if the mother or child collects any type of welfare or state money they can come after the father for repayment
