Mothers last name on birth certificate

I have been divorced for more than a year now and I keep my married name for professional reasons, plus I did not want to go through all the hassle of changing everything again. I am now 8 months pregnant with my boyfriend and was wondering if I could put my maiden name down as my last name without going out and changing everything (s.s. card, license, etc.) The baby will be named with the fathers last name. I have been trying to look at the WA state laws website and was unable to find the answer and my doctor was not sure. I really do not want my married name down on the birth certificate, I would much rather have my family name. Any help is appreciated.

IIRC, you can use either name as long as no fraud is intended. You will need to check your state laws though.

It might help to know that alot of birth certificates ask for your current name but also your maiden name. Hope this helps. Cathy
