adopting my step daughter

Is it possible for me to adopt my step daughter? The situation is that her father is on the birth certificate but does not play a role in her life. My wife has full legal custody and a protective order agonist the father preventing him of knowing where we live. He pays no child support or has no communication with her. She is 4 years of age and I've been taking care of her since she was 1. Is there any thing I can do? Thank You!

The father of my 2 boys walked out on us. He was not heard from and paid no support for 3 years. My new husband was able to adopt them without any problem. e were married only a short time. We hired an attorney who attempted to locate their father with notice of pending adoption and when that failed it went to court in 30 days and was granted. We are in Nebraska so asking an attorney in your state is best.

Good Luck to you.....it is possible.

You have to get the bio father's rights terminatyed to clear the way for your adoption. If he's willing to sign the papers fine, if not, given that you have a protective order against him you may be able to get them terminated.

Best course of action is to hire an attorney to prepare the paperwork and handle it.
