My husband wants to adopt


I've been married to my husband for almost 2 years now and he wants to adopt my son from a previos relationship,how do we go about that?

First thing you need to do is to contact a family law attorney, then you will need to get the child's father to voluntarily relinquish his rights before the adoption can take place.

J_9 seems right on, dont know what State you are located in, where the father is, etc, but generally almost always the natural father has to consent. I also adopted my current and only wife's daughter, father signed consent, my atty had given the father two choices, 1) refuse and the mother will aggressively persue approx $20,000 in unpaid child support, med expense 2) sign consent and mother will not persue $. - he signed but without his signature, it would have been imposssible for me to adopt in my state.
