Am I bound to a previous bill that my now deceased husband and I signed together?

My husband died almost 3 years ago. There was a real estate deal that we had a second on with the original owner. We were paying him back $100.00 a month until my husband contacted a terminal illness. We got behind in our payments and the guy sued us. My husband was on disability so he couldn't garnish his check but he did indeed garnish mine as I had an outside job. Since my husband died this man has come to my work and harrassed my employer about not receiving enough money. The police finally were called and he was escorted out and told never to come back. Since then I got fired. My employer had a specific reason other than the harrassment problem but it seemed to me to be not the actual reason of the firing. This man had harrassed my employer for years and I guess my boss just got tired of it. I know legally I can't be fired for his behavior but in all actuality this is what I believe happened.

What I really want to know is, am I still bound to pay this man the remaining balance that my husband and I together owed him? We could afford it when my husband was living but now that I am a widow I can't afford to pay him the 25% that the court required of my pay check. I don't even have a job right now and the propects don't look too good. Average pay for this state (MO) is $7.50 to $8.00 an hour. I am at my wits end and don't know where to turn. I have since lost my car and my home.

Thank you for any advise you offer me,

Terry

I am so sorry for your loss.

It sounds like the debt was in both your names, meaning you are left with the balance. Have you talked to an attorney about bankruptcy?

My husband and I went bankrupt 6 years ago and didn't put that particular bill on the bankruptcy. He thought we would be able to pay it. I am aware that a bankruptcy costs between $600 and $1500 before they will lift a finger. I think ours cost $1500 here in Missouri. I don't have any money to even start the process and no relatives to borrow from. Is there a way I could do it online? I know that some things like that are done now. Any ideas for me?
