6 Answers I'd like to know how old I have to be to move out of my parents house, I am only 15, and I think that I could have my life together better if they weren't around all the time, I have thought this through, I can cook and clean, I'm not wanting to right away, not until I get a job and a car and I know I can do it. So I was wondering if I would have to go to court to move out early and such or how this is going to work...thank you. Thread Summary |

The age depends on the State - it has little do with cooking and cleaning and more to do with whether you can support yourself, which you have to prove to the Court.
So get a job, support yourself, get some apartment leads and then go to Court and file a Petition to be emancipated.
- Or maybe your parents will simply consent and you won't have to go to Court. | | | | New Member

I was thinking all this through about how much money I would have to make in order to live and I know everything I need to know now...so I'm just wondering what the legal age is, and if I should just wait. | | | | Expert

Unless there is some seroius reason why you need to be emancipated there is little chance a court will just because you want to.

| | | Where are you?
In general you need to be self supporting with your own "place" to live. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | Add your answer here.
