My exhusband failed to pay child support. Now my three children are all adults and out of the house and the money is just now starting to come in. Who should get this money? My children or me?
You are not obligated to give it to your children but you certainly can. Only you will know how much you personally gave up to get the kids through childhhood. My personal feeling is that sharing the money will make everyone happy, but that is just me.
I dont think you are obligated to give the money to your adult children. If you do it should be just because you want to. You supported your children without his help, with your money. You provided them with food, clothes, shelter and what ever else they needed as children. Child support is exactly what it is called...child support. I see this as child support reimbursement to you. If you want to share the money with your adult children that's great, but dont feel obligated to give them money that is being given to you for supporting them as children.
