how does an unmarried father get joint custody

i just broke up with my long time girlfriend and we have a one year old. now she wont let me see him and i have never been away from him in his life. it has only been 3 days and i am going crazy calling lawyer after lawyer and i can't find one that is willing to help me. please let me know what i can do to see my baby. she thinks that if she keeps me away from him then i will come back to her. i have a good job but i can't afford what these lawyers want. they are telling me that by law she doesn't have to let me see him.

Why won't she let you see your child?

Are you on the birth certificate?

If so, all you need to do is go to your local courthouse and file a petition for visitation....pretty simple.

If you're not on the birth certificate, file anyways, the court will order a DNA test to prove paternity. Once that is proved visitation will be ordered.

I'm not understanding why attorney's won't help you....it's rather simple.
