definition of orthodontia costs-stipulated agreement

Hi: My ex and I have joint legal custody of our two daughters. I have primary physical custody (he lives out of state). Per stipulated agreement my exhusband is to pay for orthodontics for both daughters. The orthodontist says one daughter needs to have some teeth pulled, which is actually done by someone else. I think that my exhusband should pay 100% of that charge, but he says I should pay 50% I live from paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford to pay 50%. In the mean time, my daughter's orthodontics are at a stand still. Does anyone have experience in a similar situation in California? Should I pay 50%?
