Father Not on Birth certificate pros / cons
Is it better to have the father not sign the BC.
Im thinking that we are not married, and if I want to travel internationally I would have to get his letter to leave the country. The same would go for him. This could be a pain because he lives 3000 miles away. Also What about getting a passport, if I was the only one on it could'nt it go faster.

Are there any pros to him being on the BC?
A passport and traveling without a hassle is my biggest concern it seems it would be easier with out him on it.

Wow, there are tons of pros to having him sign the birth cirtificate. And I was a minor when I went to Germany with my Aunt and only one parent had to sign for me to get my passport. All you reall need to worry about is that you have full custody which dosen't require a single person on the because. Not only will you never get any support, your child god forbid something happen to her health, with out a father on the birth cirtificate the doctors won't know where to begin a family history. Besides that in a lot of states not listing a known father is FRAUD and you could face serious consequences. These are just a few reasons. There are more as I'm sure you'll hear from other people.

I agree with stinawords except ( and not picking on their age ) I think it might have been a few years since being a minor. It's a different ballgame now altogether because of homeland security. Both parents MUST give permission to leave the country and have a known return unless someone is moving out of the country for reasons of service. The NCP can give permission and must have it noterized and that must follow the child at all times if going out and coming back into the country. Its only been within the last 2 or 3 years that this has been in place so hope I didn't offend < wink >

Is this something you discuss with the father? If the father is not on the birth certificate, they are extinct from your child's life. If they don't do it willingly, they can take you to court. If the father is on the because, like said earlier, this will help with any future problems with health and other things. Plus, you can collect child support, that you can't if there's no father on the because.
You also need to think of your child. Think how they might feel when they get older. Don't you think they would like to know who their father is? Maybe not, but if they do, they can find out easily.

And, to be fair, if the father WANTS to be on the birth certificate, I think that they can force the issue. So this may be an entirely moot point. I can only say that if my partner was contemplating not listing me on the birth certificate to make international travel easier, I'd be doing everything I could to make sure that I was listed so that the mother couldn't just vanish with my child.
