After the recent death of my grandfather, My husband and I volunteered our home and time to care for my grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer's. I love her being here and actually see a positive change in her memory, she is active with our 16mo old daughter and enjoys Bingo that i take her 2 nights a week.
I received a card on my front door from APS Adult Protective Services. After calling and leaving 2 messages I have heard nothing back. I honestly thought it may have been a mistake, well i received today a certified letter to my home addressed to my Grandmother, stating there was a report of abuse against her. Well seeing how she has only been here a month and the only person objecting her move was my uncle, hence the person who called I am now nervous! I am confident and full of faith and know that nothing will come however, I am now concerned with our rights. As I said I have a 16mo daughter, that I dont want to fear every time she gets a bruise that I could be investigated because of this door being opened. This revengeful thing my uncle has done, because of a money issue in my grandfathers will has knots in my stomach. When this is cleared can I take legal action against him? I was told that the investigator may be accompanied by police, and will search my home. I have nothing to hide but hold a great deal of respect in our neighborhood with the school and local events. Please if someone has some advice or suggestions let me know.

It's hard, very hard. Hold your head up and just remember, you did nothing wrong.
I do believe, when it's over if it comes out how it was all false, you can charge the one who reported you. Hopefully a lawyer will read what you wrote and be able to let you know about that.
If there is a number you can call for lawyer's, where you can ask questions, or just advice for free, call it. If you can get a lawyer to help you, go for it.
It's sad what some people do, just remember, your the good one, not them!

That's so true that it is very sad when someone will lie about another person!

Here are some suggestions that I have for you. If I were you, I wouldn't be speaking with anyone who might be investigating by yourself if on the phone or in person. I would also be documenting everything concerning this. I would consult with an attorney at my earliest convenience and try to have the attorney there during any questioning. I would speak with others who have been witness to the way the uncle has been about certain issues. I am sure that others will have additional suggestions for you.

I def am thankful for both your post so far! My father who is legal Power of Attorney and Medical Power of Attorney over my Grandmother, is meeting with a lawyer tomorrow. Plus my father said that they are not to come to the home unless he is there with me and I dont have to let them. Yet I dont want to seem like I am hiding something! I hate that I feel the need to get an attorney since I did nothing wrong! I wish when people died that people would not get so money hungury, I feel so awful I just know my Grandfather turned in his grave.
Does anyone know about the door this will open with my daughter? I am only 23 and my husband 27. Our daughter is our life and we are both looking forward to more kiddos, I just dont want to worry as I said about every scrape and bruise a toddler gets!

Just be super careful with your daughter in the future so they cannot come back on you for anything. The uncle is very spiteful to do this to you. The attorney should be able to put your mind at ease over this once your husband consults with him.
