    Deeds to a grave
    My dads sister has the deeds to his grave he's been dead for 16 years and his mum is also buried in the same plot. She's been there 26 years. I was 13 when he died so I was too young to sort this out. No one ever visits the grave ever! Apart from me and my brother there is no headstone for either of them so I want his sister to sign over the deeds which she has said no. Can I take her to court and fight for the deeds? In the last 16 years I have never ever seen anything not even a bunch of flowers for him or his mum from anybody in his family.

    Why do you want the Deeds? You can put flowers on the grave, visit, do whatever you need to do without the deeds. Who paid for the plots?

    Ask the cemetery about the headstone. You may need her permission to put up a stone. Do you know why she would refuse permission?

    As in many questions here, it might depend on what country or state you're in. The use of the word "mum" suggests it might be the UK.

    In general, a "deed" to a grave is a different creature than a normal property deed. Grave "deeds" are not normally recorded, for one thing. But in general, whoever happens to have possession of the physical deed doesn't really matter. Who's name is on them? It's not like a negotiable instrument.
