changing my son's name.

My son's father had just gave up all rights to my son, who just turned two. I have read and understand that he is still responsible for "child support". He signed paper drafted by my lawyer, who was doing this for free. I have two questions. 1) Will the signed document by my ex is enough to take to court (when my fiance wants to adopt my son after we are married) or do I need to do anything now in court to make this document legal? and 2) If I want to change my son's name to my surname...how do I do this?

If the father is paying child support, he could be successful if he decided to pursue his paternal rights. There is a procedure to change a child's name; what state do you live in? Call your county courthouse or your lawyer for more information. You will most likely have to have a judge sign an order.
