There might be a culture differance at play here... You would end it with your wife if she named the baby, her child, the name she picked? Wow, and if I'm correct, you weren't with her when she gave birth? Ok... Well I'm sure you can have the name changed if you wish. Can't you come to a compromise? My mother only wanted to pick my first name and my father gave me my middle. I also had his last name. This seems like a better way to deal with what is usually a joyfull occasion. My first name grew on my father for it was not his idea of a good name. You make compromises for those you love enough to marry and have a child with.

This is a legal question, not a children question.

First thing you need to answer is where does the child live (country or state)?

A name cannot be changed without the consent of both parents. As for the original name, that is 100% the decision of the mother and she is legally entitled to name the child anything she chooses.

I can't believe you would end the marriage just because of your child's name not being the name you want! How terrible for that child to grow up thinking that Daddy and Mommy got divorced because of her. Yes, she will think it's all her fault.

Don't you even care about your child's feelings here? In the end, she will be the one hurt.

Wow, I agree with all of the others I can't believe you would even think about ending your marriage over your child's name. Second, it is true that the mother names the child in the hospital so she can name the child whatever she wants. If you both agree that you don't like the name afterward then the two of you can have it changed but my gosh you aren't going to find a law that says "the father has to name the child(ren) or the marriage is a waste of time"

If you BOTH are in agreement, then you get a family law attorney and petition for a name change on behalf of your child.

It HAS to be BOTH of you, though.
