I have a 1988 honda accord 4 door front wheel drive. Here is the problem It starts fine and will run at an idol. However, as soon as you put it in drive the idol slows and wants to die. Sometimes it works and im able to drive at times up to a minute or two but then will soon die. During this time pushing the gas does nothing and i also noticed a couple of times it wouldnt die until i push the gas pedal down. once i even quickly shifted into neutral as it was dying and it kept the engine running.....this also does not work at times. Ive been Questioning 2 things. the fuel filter and lines or ive been told it may be the distributer timing and spark plugs. If anyone has had this kind of problem or what may be causing it please let me know.

The problem I have been having with this car started about a year ago. The engine suddenly stalled while on the move in busy traffic on a very hot day (45 degrees celsius), engine light came on. It started again in around 1 minute and I pulled over and the engine stalled again. It started again and stalled after about 200 yards. I gave the car to a Honda (specialist) mechanic who did a major service and replaced the fuel pump, relay, fuel filter, oil, coolant, brakes, tyres etc and charged a tidy sum. However, six weeks after all that the car stalled again on a hot day. I live in Sydney, Australia where summer usually kicks in around October and stays hot till February the next year. The weather is pretty hot (45 degrees celsius) on really hot days and immediately drops into the 20's after four or five days of heat. The car does not stall if the weather is less tha 25 degrees celsius. Recently we have been having some really hot weather, like today (45 degrees celsius) and it did it again within a period of 30 minutes (it stalled 7 times within a distance of 16 kms and took me 45 minutes to get it back home where it died on my driveway. I contacted the same Honda mechanic (who is not a Honda Dealer mechanic), who advised that since this car has no distributor, it is probably the Ignition Key and the Immobiliser (for which repairs will cost around $1.5 grand. However after reading all the answers posted by Greasemonkey on this forum, I have my doubts about this mechanics verdict. I think he could be talking me for a ride. I am not very savvy with cars but fortunately picked up two things from GM's posts about the ICM and the CKP sensor. I would like to know whether I should tell this mechanic about the two details above or should I give it to the Honda Dealer who will charge me an arm and a leg anyway. Looking forward to hearing from the experts, thanks for your time.

Hello,

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus, and last year rain water and melting snow drained on to my passenger side floor. When I turned on the heater, you could hear water fly off the fan by your feet. Of course, it burned out my blower moter...and the other part..(sorry I don't know car parts very well) controls speeds I think. I had heard that my car type/year? may have a hole..something that the manufacturer made that was not necessary, but made that can get larger over time and exposure to water causing it to constantly drain on my blower moter possibly burning out another blower motor.

The nice guy I emailed told me where to find this hole. I think he said it was behind the glove compartment, but had computer problems and lost the info he gave me. Any ideas of the location? I have new parts ordered for this cold weather coming and want the husband to fix er' up so I don't freeze.

Now for the question. I am theorizing that because you can buy an EGR cooler that has the water port bypass to stop water from entering the oil cooler, is it safe to bypass the oil cooler all together ? In doing this the oil cooler will have to be isolated except for inlet and outlet oil ports, and also how much higher of a temp is my motor going to run ?? Somebody, Anybody, Have any idea about this motor ???

I started having problems starting my 99 Jeep wrangler when I went with my daughter to the hardware store and came out to find that it would crank but not start. Looked at everything I could think of and realized that I had no gauge readings. Ignition tumbler was already worn out - could pull the key out at any time. I tilted the steeing wheel up and all of the sudden I had gauges and she started right up. This went for a few days before happening again and when it did, the old steering wheel tilt worked each time, until it didn't. I replaced the key switch and my gauges looked good and I was on my way, until the next morning when she wouldn't crank. I thought that since I was having the ignition problems that I would go ahead and change the ignition switch. Worked like a charm, but now it starts and runs for a couple of seconds and dies. It will start right back up and run the same amount of time and die again. I can smell gas but have not found any leaks. It does not spit or sputter before it dies. Looking for a place to start looking again, hope you can help.

Hi, I have a 1991 Honda civic si which was given to me by my late grandfather. I am having major problems starting the car. I replaced the battery and tried to start it, when it didn't start I looked online for suggestions. I found something that told me to check the ECU and to check it by lifting the carpet and looking for a blinking light, but when I turned the key the light didn't come on so I ordered a new ECU and when I plugged it in the car still did not turn on. Then a friend suggested that I check for an alarm system that might be blocking power to the ECU and preventing it from starting, and remove it. So I did. The car still did not start and the ECU light will still not come on. I checked that all the spark plugs are sparking and that i have good compression in each cylinder. After all of this I decided to just pour gas directly into the cylinders, put the spark plugs back on and start it that way. After doing this, the car started but once all the gas I had put into the cylinders was used up, the car turned off. If anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be greatly appreciated. I also believe that my fuel pump might not be getting power either
