Hi everyone,
My cousin married a girl who was interested only in getting her Green-Card. Now they are going through a divorce. they lived together for a year and 2 months. during that time she managed to get pregnant and have the baby. now she claims that he abused her and bit her every day. and she wants his house, which is under his name where his parents live. he doesnt even pay mortgage on it. she has the baby and keeps the kid as a tool to manipulate him. Plus she somehow got her paperwork from immigration department. he canceled his petition, but magically she managed to get her papers according to her attorney. how can we report this fraud papers to immigration? i know that immigration do not have that much time and does not pay much attention to those type of reports. several people called two, three years ago and reported similar frauds, but immigration service did not do anything.
What can we do? Where can he apply to report the fraud?

Hi

Although I have a B1 and L1 visa but the officials at port of entry gave me admission on L1 visa although I wanted to enter on B1. Now, my trip is too short (3-4 weeks) and too hectic to apply for SSN and bank accounts etc. Also, I'll be travelling in this time frame and I may not have a permanent address to receive SSN.
Is it mandatory to apply for an SSN when I am in US on L1 first time or can I do that when I visit US again on same visa?
Will I be permitted into US on same L1 if the officials see that I have been to US on L1 earlier but didn't apply for SSN?

Please reply as early as possible as I am very short of time.

Regards

I'm currently in F1 Status and I will be graduating in December 2009. I got a job offer in March 2009 in company X (they want me join in Jan 2010) and they filed my H1B on April 2009 (since the H1-B cap was not filled) . Since I will be in F1 Status till Dec 2009, the company filed the H-1B as "Notify the office" instead of "Change of Status". I got the approved H1-B in October 2009 and I'm planning to get my H1-B stamped in January 2010 before I join the company.
But now the problem is, my university says I cannot hold an approved H1-B when I'm in F1 status even though the visa is not stamped. They want me to revoke my H1-B. Please help me in this regard about what should I do now.

I am a phd international student on an f1 visa that is considered beginning this year a resident for tax purposes. At the beginning of this year, an UK research organization contacted me for a report based on my dissertation topic which is related to a policy matter in my home country. They were recommended by a fellow student who knew about my research. I finished it and they paid 10,000 total at different periods during this year, since they were not fast in processing the transfer at once.

The UK organization deposited the payment in my US account. They did not send any particular form to declare this income and they did not withheld any taxes.

I was not aware on my tax status until now so I didn't know I was supposed to declare this income. What should I do in this case? I think I technically violated my visa status and I am worried since I was planning to apply for an opt once I graduate.

I thought that it will be better not to declare this income so I may not have any problem with the opt but I dont know if the IRS will find out on those deposits and I may need to pay penalties after all. As a second option, I was considering to declare it as a research grant, since given the nature of the work, which was written using part of my research material. I paid very little for complementary documents to be sent to the US, so most of my work was on my computer and on my dissertation information. I was physically in the US but it was not a requirement to conduct this particular research.

However, I signed some terms of reference which consisted in an agreement on what they were expecting in my report. So this can be considered a contract and as such a self-employment.

Help please !!!
