At my job my manager has repeatedly what he has admitted are empty threats against my job for 9 months and has has also made demeaning comments towards me in front of other employees such as "did you eat lead paint chips as a kid?" I was wondering if this seems like it would qualify as harassment based on the fact that it creates a hostile and intimidating work environment or am I simply overreacting? I would like to hear some other opinions.

My husband suffers from a condition that causes an imbalance of seratonin in his brain which can cause major depressive episodes. Recently, he had a depressive episode that forced me to involve medical professionals and the police when he attempted suicide. I was told which hospital that he was being taken to, but an hour and a half later and after repeated phone calls, there was no record that he had been admitted at that hospital. I called another local hospital (which he happened to work at) and asked if he had been admitted there as a psychiatric patient. I gave his name and nothing else and was told that he hadn't, but I was referred back to the first hospital. After everything was resolved, he went back to work and EVERYONE knew what had happened thanks to the desk worker who took my call. He had complaints filed against him by employees that no longer "felt secure" around him when he returned because of his condition, regardless of the fact that it was under control. As a result, he was fired. Not only were his HIPAA rights violated, he was wrongfully terminated from his job. Is this a case for legal action? I know that the federal government has stipulated that lawsuits cannot result from HIPAA, but states tend to interpret that differently. Any advice would be welcomed.

Your dismissal was processed thru HR, but the info was not relayed to the corporate payroll office. Policy fro checks for workers were mailed to employees. Your checks continued the next four weekly paydays. It wasn't until the monthly payroll reports were sent to your supervisor that the error was detected. You refuse to return the checks, what action could the company take?

We need to hire an employee in Oregon just to work on a project for ONE YEAR. Our client requires this be an employee not a contractor.

My questions are:
Can we put an end date in the offer letter? AND can we also not offer benefits?

Thanks much!

There are 2 candidates for a job. The Vice President of the department the job is within sends a Word document containing the job description and qualifications to one of the prospective candidates. The candidate is shown (via "track changes) to be massaging the qualifications area of the document. No other changes are seen in the document with regard to the candidate. The candidate that made the track changes is the one who eventually gets the job. Is this ethical? Is there recourse?
