I believe I saw the answer in prious posts, but wanted to make sure. The capacitor mounted to the blowere moter housing was making a great deal of "buzzing" noises and I noted a "scortch" mark on the cover plate and plug end when I disconnected the power cord. The fan was not turning but I figured it had to be the problem. I removed the capacitor and attempted to buy one locally.

I am a licensed general contrtactor with multiple ICC certifications. I have multiple HERS ratings certs & a EPA 608 Type II certification. The supplier would not sell me the capacitor directly stating that I was not a licensed HVAC contractor. I was going to attempt to purchase the part online if thats my only option.

Anyone have any remarks or suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Ok so I have a day&night A/C and heater setup on my roof. I recently had a problem where the burners would not light so I got a honeywell retrofit kit. Just put that in today and got it all set up. Wasnt very hard to get going. Now the problem is, when I turn on my heater it kicks on, pilot lights and then the burners light. Burners are on for a couple of minutes and then sometimes the fan kicks in at a low speed. Sometimes it doesnt but it always shuts off. I was told that it has a temp sensor in there and that it shuts off to protect the heat exchanger.

If I turn the fan on manually and turn on the heater it works fine and it runs like there is nothing wrong. Someone told me that the fan has a sensor in there to tell when it gets hot and that it may be faulty or its wired incorrectly.

Anyone have any ideas? It would be nice to set the heater and not have to worry about it. Thanks!

Hi all,
Had a Goodman GDH8 installed not quite 2 years ago, last winter just 2 months out of warranty, it started acting up. From what I've read, a somewhat typical issue where the ignition system starts, glows all nice and red, then with a click and a hiss, attempts to light the burner, and it it fails to light, will try 2 more times before going into a system lockout with a single flashing light. I turn the furnace off, wait several minutes, turn it back on, and hope it lights this time. Sometimes, it actually does light on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd attempt and we have heat.

Called the company that installed it and they sent a tech out. (Who much preferred standing in my living room talking to fixing the furnace.) He checked all kinds of things over a period of ~3~ visits, and found nothing. On his third visit, my husband had gone online and did some research and told the guy to check the ground. He did, and found that the guy that had installed the furnace ran the ground incorrectly. He corrected the problem. So, several hours and a $330.00 bill later on an almost new furnace, we thought we had finally had a furnace that worked. It ran fine for about a month then right before Spring arrived and we stopped using it, it started all over again. I was so mad I just shut the dang thing off.

Same exact thing now, turn it on, it cycles through 3 ignition attempts, then locks out with a single flashing light. But only sometimes. (Except for tonight, where I can't get it to light.) Called a different company altogether and the tech, (recommended by a couple friends), came out today and said it sounded like it wasn't getting gas. He checked all that, and apparently, gas flow is fine. So after a time, he came and said he had found a small dark spot on the back of the circuit board. He said "it isn't burned all the way through". (Yikes?) He is bringing a new circuit board back tomorrow to try. (Ka-ching.)

Frankly, we do not have the money to spend on another 2 or 3 or 4 visits. If the circuit board isn't the issue, what should I do? My dad was in HVAC for many years; I know these guys are highly trained and work hard. But obviously, they don't know these Goodman furnaces and all the little quirks I've read about. (The main problem being that Goodman doesn't train their techs enough, from what I've read after hours and hours of researching these furnaces online.)

Can I ask the tech to re-check the ground, or check the igniter for tiny cracks, or the limiter switch on the blower, or the high limit switches? (This is if the board isn't the issue.) Or should I just keep my mouth shut? I have to tell you, I'm really cold because I still cannot get the furnace to light tonight and I'm very very frustrated with this on-going situation.

Hi, I have an older gas Furnace (8 yrs)? And it seems to run fine when we first turn it on via the Thermostat (ie, turn on, set temp to...). Warm air blows out upon initial startup and maintains this heat up until the desired settings.

However as the hours and day goes, on, the thermostat of course, turns on the furnace again if the temperature falls below the set desired setting. When this happens, the air is normally cool or sometimes even cold, ---- and of course, if we're away for awhile, the house is actually colder than normal with the furnace running constantly blowing cold air.

We can usually fix this , but turning off the thermostat, waiting 10 mins or so, and then turning it on. But ideally we'd like to live with a normal automated system :)

I'm willing and ready to bring in professional help, but was wondering if any experts on this board could provide some insight - maybe it is a quick fix?

thanks

Hi, complete newbie here.

I am replacing the ancient thermostats in my home with the honeywell ones made for radiant ceiling heat. 2 of the 3 I am replacing work fine. The 3rd is wired the same as the others but the heat always stays on. The thermostat shows the temperature reading, but it doesn't cut off when it is supposed to.

The directions I followed that came with the thermostat are below.

I have 2 red wires that are the ceiling heat, I have one black and one white wire coming from the circuit breaker, the thermostat has two black wires.

I connected one of the thermostat wires to one of the red wires, and one of the thermostat wires to the black wire from the breaker, then I connected the white wire to the red wire. I have also tried to switching the reds, and switching the black and white to the red.

To me, it makes sense that if one of the wires from the breaker is connected to one of the ceiling wires then the heating elements will always have power and therefore always heat...but the directions say to do it this way.

Can I connect both red wires to one of the thermostats black wires, and both wires from the breaker to the other thermostat wire?

Please help...it's getting cold here in central PA.

I just try to find out where the grey/black "film" on near the ceiling at my walls is coming from. We regularly open windows to let fresh air in and I recently read that this has to do with evaporation of paint and floor board.

Can anyone help? Thanks
