vertical siding

hi,

i'm interested in re-siding my house with vertical siding, but was wondering if anyone knows of a supplier that makes it in lenghths of about 25ft so that i can do the whole of the house in one run? otherwise i'll have to do it in sections 12 ft high and run a j channel across, but i'd rather it go all the way from roof to floor...

thanks,

andy

I don't know any suppliers but can't help but throw in a half a cent's worth:

Reconsider going vertical.

The reason so few suppliers carry it is because of it's unpopularity.

Now if you plan on living there til death do you part, and re-selling will not be an issue, then go for it!

At the moment, I can't think of a 2 story house with vertical siding. I have horizontal siding. It runs 80' across the back of my house. I staggered the joints in the conventional pattern. I am not sure how that would look with vertical siding. You might try a simulation on your computer.

It is your house, why live like you rent? If vertical siding looks good to you and anyone you share the house with, go for it. When I resided my house 20 years ago, I went with several uncommon details, but what my wife and I liked. At that time part of the incentive to reside the house was that we would take a beating if we sold soon as was likely. Whatever you do, if it looks good, likely you will not have trouble if you sell unless it is just plain weird.

There was a 2 story commercial building here with horizontal siding applied at a 45 degree angle. Distinctive, but I thought OK. The local newspaper panned it.

A bit late. But anyway

Royal building products have vertical board & batten vinyl siding in 10' lengths. But will custom order 25' panels. But from what I remember the order must be large. Like twice what I needed for my average house.
