    Patch a shingle Roof
If you have a 30 year roof with two layers, can you patch it if there are approximately 8 squares that are damaged?

Sure you can patch it but a 30 year old shingle will be hard to match and now you spent money for 8 squares and the rest of the roof is already beyond its life expectancy. So the answer is yes, but why.

Willie P A square in roofing is 10x10, (100 square feet,) which is a square. Just checking here, do you mean 8 shingles or 8 tabs on the shingles?

If this is 800 square feet then No not a patch here. Also since you have two layers on now, to re shingle the whole roof all of the shingles needs to be removed for a new roof. A third layer is a No No. Too much weight on roof.

Some roofers still do it but for good reasons its against code here.

Patching a roof is a real pain. If they used one of the shingling methods where a double layer is used for the first course, you can remove the first course and use a starter strip there and use them for your replacement shingles.

The shingles can be removed and the holes patched. The Tar paper has to be patched and glued on too. The tabs can also be glued down as well.

    yea, roofer's terminology is 1 square = 100 sqft. Which isn't a patch.
