    Cats at the dinner table
Is it polite to have your cat sitting near the dinner table during supper when guests are present? Why or why not?

Other then locking a cat upin a another room during dinner with guests, I don't think there is nothing much one can do to stop it. As long as the cat isn't sitting directly on the table during dinner, I don't see where this an etiquette problem.

Having your pet near the table is fine - on the table or bothering guests is not and if the animal, whether cat or dog, is a pest, put them in another room for the meal.

I am personally grossed out when people's cats are up on the counters or table where food is prepared and served - yuck!

How often do you see this being done at dinner parties? I'm not sure why you would consider this good manners to have an animal at the dinner table around other people's food. I would question someone's sanitary habits if I saw them 'pulling' up a chair for their animal next to my plate. No thanks. I have a small dog that I adore, but I'll tell you what my mom told me: there's a time and place for everything. Put the cat in another room and enjoy your human guests, lol!

Well, no matter how much you like you pet, but in dinner time you should put it to another room, especilay other guests at your home.

I have to admit I get totally grossed out when I see people allowing their cats on counters and tables. I know what they just did in that box ;) Around the dinner table? Are we talking sitting staring at the guests or just lounging near the table? I'd say if the cat is just laying down near the table or minding it's own business by the table, that's totally fine. But begging for food and rubbing up against the guests while they are eating is kind of bad manners.

I will assume you are not serving the cat for dinner ( the other white meat)

They should not be on the counter where food is prepared, they should not be eating off the plates, they should not be on the table or even on the chairs at the table.

Since I have a serious allergy to cats, I may not attend, so guests should know there are cats ( or dogs) in the home.
