I am also 13 years old and want to become a singer too. But my parents don't know it and I don't think they'd approve of it...

Anyway, you could audition for a company. For example, Jype Entertainment. I think it is a Korean company but you can be of any nationality to audition. The audition fee is free and if they think you have talent and want you in their company, you will sign a contract with them and they will pay for all your training until you debut. Sorry if any of the information I'm telling you is wrong but this is what I read on either the website or was told by a person that seemed to be...Pretty darn sure of it. There are open auditions in the U.S. or you can send in an email audition. Jype Entertainment's most popular artist is Bi/Rain that in April of 2006 was listed by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Don't do ANYTHING without discussing it with your parents first. There are a lot of sharks in "showbiz" preying on young hopefuls (especially girls)

Look guys, stuff doesn't just fall out of the sky into your lap.
If you want to sing - SING! Go to karaoke, get a machine at home, take lessons, attend talent contests (local, not just Pop Idol level).
Read the music papers, bands are ALWAYS looking for vocalists and musicians (if you can learn an instrument, even better).
Work FOR FREE at local bars and clubs, be a roadie for working acts, talk to them, learn the reality behind the business - they do it every day and can give you guidance.

If you really want to follow the dream you have to sweat and strain and face a LOT of setbacks - worry about your voice NOT your looks, practice, practice, practice..

of course i have practised, done karaoke and am not doin it 4 my looks ! and i know it doesnt fall into my lap, im not a starry eyed little girl, this site is all about asking for advice isn't it ? I appreciate what you're saying and i know it doesnt happen over night and theres a lot of work to be done, its just hard going about it when you haven't really been in that line of work before.

Okay guys, I'm just trying to inject some realism here. FIRST you have to have talent, SECOND, it doesn't hurt to look good, THIRD. you have to be prepared to work HARD to get anywhere. Pop Idol is all very well, but you'll find that these "kids" have been singing semi-pro or totally professional for years.
Just follow your dream - but if you do karaoke and get booed off, if you sing at a function (wqedding, bar mitzvah, whatever) and the crowd just keep talking, and totally ignore you, sometimes you have to take ther hint that you don't have that SPECIAL something.
Having a dream is good, but having a job is better.
I personally know a young lady with a glorious voice, nice looking too, been in the business for many years, can't catch a break, now she is working 3 days a week in a dress shop to make ends meet - and she is REALLY talented.
Don't sign anything, alway take documents away to check, if they won't let you take them - RUN A MILE!!!

Good luck.
