The St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia
The Society that came to be known as the St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia was named in honor of Andrew the Apostle, the patron saint of Scotland.
While formal, recorded minutes of the Society began in 1749, it appears that the Society was founded in 1747 at the Tun Tavern, which was the fashionable meeting and dining place of the time in Philadelphia.
