Simply Supported T-Beam

I have a few questions actually....first of all....how do you find the stiffness in a T-beam...secondly....if i have a distributive load on a simply supported T-beam, and I wanted to increase the stiffness by riveting a plate to the top of it....what is the minimum number of rivets I could use...any help would be appreciated...thanks.
