Methodology for detecting a lightning event

I'm a student of Electrical Engineer doing an internship in a utility in
Venezuela (CVG EDELCA C.A.), and I would like to get some information about
the methodologies used to detect a flash in a lightning detection system using IMPACT ES
sensors, which are manufactured by Vaisala Inc.

Thanks every one in advanced
