Unintentional multiple e-mails from Outlook 2007

I just started using Outlook 2007 on a new Gateway computer. The system is also running McAfee. When I send out e-mails from Outlook, the recipients end up with dozens of copies. When I send some (not all e-mails), the e-mail goes to 'sent' AND to 'outbox'. The one's that go to the outbox are re-sent every time Outlooks sends/receives. I'm lost on this one - can you help?
