Outlook Express: After compacting, lost emails in folder.

We were looking at hundreds of emails in my wife's Inbox, then when we closed it we got the "Compact Messages?" pop-up. We chose YES. We then logged back into email and the inbox only had 10 or so emails!

We closed it and got the compact message AGAIN. We chose NO. Now, when we click on the Inbox it says

Possible causes are low disk space or low memory.
Hard drive is just 1/3rd full. Yes the computer is low on Ram (just 256Meg) but it's been running fine that way for a couple years.

Any clue what happened?? ...or how we can get those emails back?

Thanks!

Rick, I just faced the same problem and have posted a question just like yours. Please let me know if you found a way to get back all your inbox messages, because I've lost all mine too after I compacted my messages.
