Gmail poll for mail frequency

I see that with the other email accounts that I have gmail get email from, it only polls for email every 30-60 minutes.

How often does it poll for email sent to the gmail address?

I've got a Gmail window on my iGoogle page. Will I be notified of new email just as fast as if I had Gmail itself open?

Thanks!
