Best way to retire an old and much used email address?

I want to stop using my oldest and best known email address due to alot of spam.

I know I can do an auto responder for it, but if I give a new email address in it, spammers will get it too?

Emailing everyone in my address book would be a royal pain...

...is there an easy way?

Thanks!

Bear in mind that even with a huge address book a mailing to all of it wouldn't take that long.

You could always setup a forward to gmail and let there filters clean it all up for you.
I have found that they are very good, plus with just under 3 Gb of storage

I'd not thought of forwarding to gmail. I've come to love mailwasher...but if gmail does as good or better, then I suppose I could get used to it. I'll have to scratch me chin over that.
