Attaching jpegs to outgoing e-mails

When I try to attach a jpg photo to my e-mails it pulls all photos and even any logos from all of my mail that I have received. So say a 917kb turns into .. a lot. I tried calling, toshiba (my laptop), verizon, and AOL and of course everyone blames someone else. I just ned help to fix the problem- I do not care where or how it originated. Please help and be gentle, I am a blonde.
