    I read this question wrong last night. I was out late last night enjoying myself and I think the cold weather must have numbed my brain. The answer is A, "Growth in population." Population pressure caused local environments to become exhausted, and people had to find new sources of food. Diminishing resources caused by population growth finally forced people to do the hard work of planting and harvesting.

    The answer is A.

    Just a short paragraph of interest:- re Population growth.

    The decisions that women and men make about having children are influenced by many other factors besides government policies. These factors include their social and economic circumstances, their education, their need to have someone care for them in their old age, their feelings about the future, and their access to information and medical care. As a result, future social and economic changes will have important effects on birth rates and population growth.

    A is wrong
    The answer is not A, it is D- loss of status for women. I had that question A is wrong.
