sattelite to vcr?

Hi,, i tried to hook up my sattelite to my vcr to record a channel,, but i does not work only like snow i get,, the way i hooked it up.. from sattelite to input of vcr the output of vcr to tv,,, i know i will have to watch the same thing that the vcr is recording but that's ok , i dont mind?? i tried tv to channel 3 and 4 the same with the vcr and always the same result
please can anyone helpl me ??
