how to record to DVD and watch live tv at same time

I want to record a previously recorded satellite show to DVD AND watch live tv at the same time. Is this possible? I am recording to the dvd recorder by playing the satellite program on the tv.

My tv, satellite and DVD recorder all have TV/Video buttons to switch back and forth, but I don't understand how they should be connected.

Right now my TV source input it set to AV2, which works, but I don't now what it's referring to.

My DISH satellite is set up so I can record to the DVR and watch another channel but I don't know how this works with the DVD recorder.

I'll assume your dish receiver is also a DVR.

What you need to do is connect the DVD recorder between the Dish and your TV.

In this configuration, the live TV or the previously recorded tv, can be recorded to DVD.

Your Dish receiver will have a/v outputs. The DVD recorder will have a/v inputs and outputs. Your TV will have inputs. Now its a simple matter of using appropriate cables and connect dish output to dvd recorder input, dvd recorder output to tv input.

Yes, I have all those connections made.

How do I watch live tv while recording? When I use the dish remote, it starts to record live tv not the recorded event. When I use the tv remote, I can't get to a tv station.

TV settings
Channel is set to Air/CATV > Air
External signal source set to TV IRC and S-Video (both of these work; get a picture on the tv). AV1 and AV2 show a blue screen.

Ok, I think I understand now. To do what you would like to do, you'll need a dual tuner dish receiver, such as a Dish 322 or the Dish DVR 625.

I believe I have a dual tuner. Can you explain what remote I would use and how to switch to live tv and still be recording to the DVD recorder.

Ah, ok if you have a dual tuner, you need a satellite splitter Like this . The feed from the satellite dish goes into the one end, and the other two ends go into each of the tuners.

The remote you should be using is the Dish remote. You use the TV remote to change volume, and set the appropriate input.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Dish receiver, so you'lll need to refer to the users manual and guides.
