GE Guide plus tv

We have a five year old GE Guide Plus TV. The sound keeps going out and switches to SAP mode by itself. From this site I learned that you could unplug the TV and plug it back in and it would work. That solved the problem but now it switches almost every hour and needs to be unpluged. Has anyone found a permanent solution to this.
